Project Overview and Background

The Ministry of Shipping, Govt. of India , through “Sagarmala” project have chalked out a holistic and futuristic roadmap to transform India’s logistics landscape by integrating the development of the Ports, the Industrial clusters and hinterland and efficient evacuation systems through road, rail, inland and coastal waterways. As part of the plan, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust has initiated the development of a Dry Port at Jalna to cater to the traffic from the Marathwada region. The site location falls under direct influence zone of Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor. The required land for the project has already been acquired by JNPT.


Project Development Plan

The Dry Port is proposed to be constructed over an area of 180 hectares in phased development and the Phase-I is expected to be developed at an estimated cost of Rs.350 Crores. The Phase-I would involve development of around 60 Ha of the total area. The project would have the necessary facilities as one-stop shop for the EXIM based industries such as customs clearance facilities, Container Freight Station, Warehousing Space, Cold Storage, Liquid Storage, truck terminals etc.

The dry port shall get connected to the South Central Railways network, to Nagpur-Mumbai Super Communication expressway and six lane National highways connecting major cities of central, south and northern India.

The dry port would be a rail based facility having all the necessary infrastructure and equipment for the cargo handling. Along with the dry port, there would be separate space available for the domestic movement of cargo and also for setting up of the industrial facilities. The dry port has received a very warm response from the industries based at Jalna and other Marathwada region and about 12 proposals/ Memorandum of Understanding have already been received by JNPT for setting up of industries adjacent to the dry port area. The combined investments from these proposals are estimated at Rs. 400 crore.

The planning and estimation of the approach road and ROB is being done by M/s. Dhruv Consultancy Services Pvt. Ltd. (DCSPL). The rail connectivity planning, estimation and tendering along with the associated ROB work is being undertaken by M/s.Indian Port Rail Corporation Limited (IPRCL). The acquisition process for private land falling on the proposed railway alignment has also been initiated and shall be completed soon. The port has appointed M/s. EY LLP for transaction advisory services for the dry port. The tenders for the selection of Developer.
