Prof V L Dharurkar appointed as Vice Chancellor of Tripura (Central) University

The Ministry of Human Resource Development today appointed 65-yrs old veteran professor Dr Vijaykumar Laxmikantrao Dharurkar, head of the department of Mass Communication and Journalism of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad as third vice chancellor of Tripura University for next five years.

Tripura University Act 2006 has pleased to appoint prof Dharurkar as vice chancellor of the university for five year from the date on which he enters upon the office.

The incumbent vice chancellor prof A K Ghosh had completed his tenure couple of months ago but he was asked to continue until new appointment is made. During the tenure of Prof Ghosh, Tripura University hit headlines in media because of wrong reasons and Tripura assembly had to unanimously passed resolution seeking investigation against him on academic and administrative corruption.

Ministry of HRD has been investigating against prof Ghosh a few others of the university on the charge of misappropriation development fund, nepotism in appointment and promotion of teachers and staff and misusing university property, purchasing of e-books, furniture and electronic gadgets.

The academic environment of the university has been down graded in past few years because of administrative flaws and massive irregularities and university ranked among lowest. Moreover, Tripura university listed in one of the 11 non-performing university of the country, which enraged the state government and embarrassed the central government.

However, a wave of joy and happiness swept across the university campus with the appointment of an academic legend and outstanding professor and administrator as vice chancellor of Tripura University. The university administration today started refreshing the VC’s chamber and arrangement has been made to welcome new VC.

University sources said prof Dharurkar is expected to join next week.

Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb and Higher Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath congratulated newly appointed VC of the central university and hoped, under his rule Tripura university would regain it’s lost glory and prestige.
